Further information

This is an excellent opportunity to apply your geotechnical expertise within the Highways Agency (HA), where you’ll be working with a high level of autonomy.

The Government has announced an intention for the HA to become a Government owned company which will involve exciting new ways of working in the delivery and maintenance of a world class strategic road network. The newly formed Road Based Asset Group includes responsibility for the technical governance of our earthwork assets and for providing effective policy advice. You’ll be an important member of this team: providing impartial, accurate and timely geotechnical advice to project leaders and other specialists so improvement and maintenance programmes can be met.

Key additional tasks will include

  • contributing to our future vision and direction;
  • managing the review of geotechnical standards;
  • management of projects under the consultancy and research portfolio;
  • collaborating with external suppliers (consultants and contractors).

You must be eligible for inclusion on the Register of Ground Engineering Professionals at Specialist level. Experience of applying geotechnical engineering to highway design, construction and maintenance and working with a wide range of suppliers and stakeholders will be advantageous. We’ll also expect strong relationship building, team working and decision making skills.

Besides the rewarding nature of the job itself, the benefits that come with it are desirable. The package includes generous holiday entitlement, attractive pension options, flexible working and other policies to enable an excellent work/life balance.
