About the Business Line

We provide professional services in areas such as aviation, transit, freight rail, highways and bridges, planning, and ports and marine. Our global network of top-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries. 

Our Rail Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a Commercial Manager / Contracts Manager with Rail experience. AECOM are currently expanding their already substantial Rail team in our Manchester office following several major project wins.
The successful candidate will be recently chartered or working to achieve this status and will have proven commercial management experience including leading a commercial team. Experience of railway engineering projects is desirable . The role would suit a self motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. 

The Manchester office has an established track record of successfully delivering rail engineering schemes. Our modern office has a multi-disciplinary transportation design and planning capability and provides concept, feasibility and preliminary design on a wide range of rail engineering projects. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with a sound technical background that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.
We also have a proven track record of successfully delivering projects for Transport for London, Transport for Greater Manchester, Network Rail, as well as several Tier 1 main contractors across the UK and Ireland and internationally. 
Job Responsibilities:

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard: 

To ensure that all pre and post-contract commercial and contractual activities are carried out in a professional manner and in accordance with company procedures and strategies.
To ensure a robust contract review process is in place to safeguard the business against contractual risk
Mitigation of business and contractual risks and related commercial exposure
Manage the interface with key commercial related functions such as Legal, Risk, Insurance and obtain bonds / warranties as appropriate to individual contracts
Review all contract terms issued to the Rail sector at tender stage and following project wins and advise on appropriateness of contract terms / identify appropriate amendments. Assist with contract negotiation with Client when necessary.
To assist with the promotion of AECOM to maximise potential business opportunities – always ensuring compliance with business conduct rules
To work with Project Managers to ensure that variations / claims are properly presented and that they are agreed and closed out at the earliest practicable date.
To be aware of contract programme and progress monitoring and assist the Project Manager in notifying the effect of contract delay.
To assist with the management and the resolution of any project claims raised by or levied against the company, and ensure compliance with Company policy with regard to the notification and evaluation of risk.
Assist PMs with preparation of Sub consultancy Agreements and advise on adequate levels of insurance required from Subs

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following attributes:

Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions
Can deal comfortably with more senior managers and is able to craft the most appropriate approach

Preferred Qualifications:

You will have a relevant degree or similar, preferably in a construction/process related subject You will be a Member of professional body (RICS, CICES) or will be working towards Chartered status with membership of a relevant professional institution. You will have excellent technical and communication skills and will be a competent user of Microsoft Office suite of programmes
