About the Business
The award winning CH2M HILL Tunnelling Practice has a large and increasing project portfolio of works including Thames Tunnel, Crossrail, TCR and Bond Street Station upgrades, National Grid Cable Tunnels as well as many others. We are looking to expand the Tunnelling Practice in the next 4 years to exploit the exciting opportunities anticipated in the global tunnelling market.

Description and Desired Qualifications
We are seeking a Principal Tunnel Engineer with a range of technical and managerial capabilities including knowledge in either bored tunnel design, SCL, cut & cover design, stations and shafts in soft ground or rock conditions.

You will undertake project work involving all elements of underground structure design/construction issues, providing technical input within that field as part of a multi-disciplinary team, or working separately on particular aspects of underground structure design/construction providing high quality advice to the tunnels team & clients. There would also be the need to support bids with technical and other input.

As a Chartered Engineer and a tunnel specialist you will have understanding of different tunnel construction methods and effects on design, structural design of RC and steel sections, you will be able to input and authorise Tunnel Risk Assessments and Specifications.

Candidates should be able to select and develop solutions to non-standard problems in the tunnel environment, you will understand the related regulatory and/or industry requirements/practices and have the ability to set technical standards and to lead and guide others.

Excellent inter-personal and negotiation skills are essential, with the ability to understand and present complex concepts in a clear and lucid way to all levels. You will be self motivated and able to work under your own initiative, you will be an innovative engineer looking to develop technical and management skills and willing to tackle any challenge.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates will have a Bachelor or Masters Degree in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical or Mining Engineering.
With significant experience of tunnel design and / or construction you will also have achieved Chartered status with  the ICE or a relevant professional body.
