A Challenging and large hydropower project in the Afghanistan region requires a Resident engineer to supervise and manage all Tunnelling, Drill and Blast and lining work on one of the main contracts.
The project is a new hydropower construction project which is currently under construction. The tunnelling element is expected to be completed in late 2014-early 2015 however the technical work needs hands on supervision.
Through the construction phases there is a need for a supervision expert with a background in; tunnelling, geotechnical or mining with a recent experience on large hydropower projects in remote or conflict locations. This will be a long term contract to support in the management of local contractors in the delivery of tunnelling activities and in liaising with the client.
Responsibilities will be:
-Managing local contractors
-Supervising all drill and blast activities
-Managing safety of blast works with very hands on approach
-Advising on and supervising the concrete linings of the tunnels
-Arranging meetings with the client
-Liaising with regional management and directors as local representative
-Creating work plans and delivering progress reports
-Overseeing construction of headrace tunnels and excavations
-Supporting the senior RE with all duties
Ideal candidates will be experienced in underground engineering with a focus on hydropower. They will have been at least at site manager, resident engineer or assistant engineer level on large scale hydropower projects. Must have a good understanding of tunnelling techniques, particularly hard rock and Drill & Blast.
A degree is civil engineering is preferred and English fluency is required for the site.
