BAM Nuttall is well known as a major contractor, with a long history of completing prestigious civil engineering projects throughout the UK. Less well known is BAM Nuttall's track record in the world of highway maintenance, though the company has been continuously active in this field for almost a quarter of a century. Building on this, BAM's management has decided to expand the company's business in this sector, aiming to become a leading player in the highway maintenance market within five years.
As a result we seek to employ a Business Development Manager to create and develop relevant business opportunities for Highway Services Lighting and Sign department within BAM Nuttall Limited ensuring a balanced sector portfolio and to develop long term client relationships.
Your Key Activities include:
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
•Identify job opportunities through trade press and market intelligence.
•Identify target projects, clients and markets with area managers.
•Liaise with current clients and potential new clients to determine work programmes.
•Attend exhibitions and conferences to promote the company on exhibition stands and to network with potential clients and other contacts.
•Attend relevant presentations, conferences and meetings to gain knowledge for furthering company development.
•Delegate and check completed documentation.
•Produce winning prequalification documents.
•Maintain accurate project data on Pursuit.
•To ensure the submission of quality information into tender documents.
•Maintain continuity of approach in the prequalification/tendering process by being involved at each stage.
•Ensure social events and corporate days are organised.
•Understand and promote the company strategy and direction.
•Give in depth support and advice to operational and BD colleagues.
•Collect, analyse and interpret market information and provide evidence for strategic decisions.
•Provide support campaigns alongside operation teams.
•Seek sufficient feedback of information provided to internal and external sources.
•Deliver presentations to key clients on BAM Nuttall capabilities.
•Attend and take an active part of ILP and HEA regional meetings and client forums.
•Maintain up to date knowledge of Company history and future strategy.
•Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.
Candidate Requirements Job Activities:
Strategy & Market Planning
•Manage the overall market audit process so that potential strategic opportunities can be identified.
•Use directional policy tools and financial modelling/impact analysis to prioritise opportunities.
•Maintain an in depth understanding of internal and external dynamics making formal recommendations to respond to change.
•Provide analysis to challenge the Company's market position.
•Test assumptions using appropriate data collection and analysis.
•Direct the strategy of staff to achieve a balanced portfolio.
•Collaborate with bid / operation teams to design tools and deliver the education required for these teams.
•Track the usage, quality and effectiveness as feedback to improve.
•Ensure that the development and bid teams are aware of what materials are available.
•Link this awareness to the Company vision and strategy.
•Understand and support the management of external stakeholders through marketing, seminars and lobbying activities.
BD Enablement & Bid Support
•Input detailed recommendations to define appropriate processes and systems for the BD Dept.
•Work with internal departments ensuring their needs and preferences are included.
•Establish a clear measurable objective for the BD programme.
•Establish and allocate relevant budgets to support the BD programme.
•Produce BD performance reports monthly using information provided by other BD members.
•Disseminate areas of improvement required within the BD and Bid submission departments to achieve the BD programme.
•Engage area managers and directors to challenge general thinking.
•Provide best practice to allow BD to lead the business to success.
•To carry out any other duties specified by the BAM Nuttall, which may be required to fulfil the service's role
